Melbourne Deputy Lord Mayor says the pro-Palestine protest at the Opera House steps was one of the most “despicable and racist” things he’s ever seen on the streets of Australia.
“Where the line gets crossed is when they start invoking hatred and harm and violence against other people,” Mr Reece told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“That’s the point when I think police should be stepping in and shutting this thing down.”
Mr Reece said the pro-Palestinian protests in Melbourne have been marching peacefully.
“We’ve had pro-Palestinian marching out the front of the state library, a couple of hundred, I don’t agree with much of what they’ve said but I think it’s a peaceful protest; we live in a democracy.”
