Boris Johnson to reveal plan to ‘keep Tories in power for another decade’

Boris Johnson reportedly wants to scrap legislation so he can decide the date of the next general election. After securing an 80-seat majority, the Prime Minister will be setting out the government’s forthcoming priorities in the Queen’s Speech which is expected to take place on Thursday. His plans include repealing the Fixed Term Parliament Act which sets a default date for a general election, according to The Times. The move would mean Mr Johnson is free to decide when the country next goes to the polls. The Tories also reportedly want to redraw constituency boundaries to make it easier for them to stay in power. It’s believed Mr Johnson will announce a legal commitment to raise spending on the NHS year-on-year which, if passed, means the government will be spending £33.9 billion by 2023-

The Sunday Telegraph said the Prime Minister is also eyeing an overhaul of the Civil Service. The Prime Minister visited Tony Blair’s old constituency of Sedgefield on Saturday after it turned blue (Picture: PA) There are expected to be other additions to October’s Queen’s Speech, including moves to ensure serious offenders are not released from prison early, minimum services during transport strikes and new protections for renters. A Downing Street spokesman said: ‘This election was as much about delivering on the people’s priorities as it was about getting Brexit done – and the Prime Minister understands that. ‘We will show the public, especially Labour voters who trusted us with their vote, that we will deliver on the promises we have made on helping with the cost of living, tackling crime and supporting our NHS. ‘This starts with making sure the NHS has the funding it needs to carry on being the best healthcare service in the world. It is one of the key priorities of the people’s Government.’
