Business Secretary Alok Sharma has waded into the row over the playing of 'Rule Britannia' and 'Land of Hope and Glory' during the Last Night Of The Proms saying the anthems should be played "with the lyrics sung".
He continued to say, it brings “a huge amount of pleasure to millions of people” and that if singing is not possible, the BBC should put up subtitles."
Yet the BBC has defied the Government by announcing that Rule, Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory will not be sung at this year’s Last Night of the Proms.
