Research
Roger-Pol Droit's research work focuses on representations of others in Western thought, which led him to study in particular the approach of Indian doctrines, including the discovery of Buddhism by Europeans in The forgetfulness of India. A philosophical amnesia (PUF, 1989) and The Cult of Nothingness. Philosophers and the Buddha (Seuil, 1997), with a view particularly marked by the work of Michel Foucault. The extensions of this work then took him to direct two volumes of an anthology of Indian philosophical texts, Chinese, Tibetan, Hebrew, Arabic and Persian which have collaborated François Jullien, Raphael Draï and Christian Jambet (Philosophies elsewhere Hermann, 2010) and to study the historical evolution of representations of the "barbarians" from Greek antiquity to the present day (Genealogy barbarians, Odile Jacob, 2007).
Articles and columns
Roger-Pol Droit published his first articles in the newspaper Le Monde in 1972, at age 23, while still a student at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Saint-Cloud. He then managed the testing pages World of Books, held a monthly column and weekly devoted to books of ideas. Its current column, since 2012, entitled Free Style, appears weekly in The World of Books. He has published in this newspaper over a thousand articles and great interviews with most contemporary thinkers (Levinas, Levi -Strauss, Foucault etc.).
Since 2003, he regularly published in Le Point interviews and records.
