Women tear down posters of children kidnapped by Hamas

Women tear down posters of children kidnapped by Hamas and shout 'This is for Palestine'

Neta Fibeesh, who knows someone who was abducted by Hamas, said she was sworn at by members of the public when she and her mum put the posters up around Mornington Crescent, north London

A student has expressed her outrage after flyers she put up of children kidnapped by Hamas were ripped down.

Footage on social media shows two women tear down the posters of innocent Israeli children who were taken hostage by Hamas. One woman shouts "this is for Palestine!" in the clip, widely shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Neta Fibeesh, a British-Israeli woman who had given out and put up the posters around Mornington Crescent, north London, was disgusted to see the women's actions and filmed the confrontation. The 23-year-old woman, currently studying for a PhD, she was sworn at and intimidated by members of the public when she tried to "advocate for human rights".

Speaking today, Neta said: "This past week has been just devastating. Innocents have been kidnapped - a close family friend of mine, her grandma is one of those who has been abducted. I know a lot of people who are scared about being Jewish now in the UK."

Neta, currently studying her neurobiology programme at Tel-Aviv University, came back to the UK on one of British Airways' final flights out of the city this week, and said things have been "unpleasant" and "upsetting" since she returned. Neta was born in Israel but came to the UK with her family when she was three, before recently moving back to study.

One of the posters she and her mum put up shows four-year-old Ariel, whose kidnapping alongside his months-old baby brother Kfir and their mother Shiri Silberman-Bibas horrified the world. Yet, the two women "aggressively tore down the flyers" within minutes in Mornington Crescent, which is near a large Jewish community. Asked by another onlooker "why don't you do something for Palestine?" one of the women replies furiously "this is for Palestine!"

The clip was shared on X, and other social media users echoed Neta's anger. One woman posted: "We are living in sad times. Awful." Another woman, who lives in the US, shared: "It looks pretty scary in Britain right now." A further X user posted: "Dreadful, shameful behaviour. I would hope we worry about all vulnerable people affected by this awful conflict."

Hamas fighters launched a bloody raid on villages near the Gaza border, killing at least 260 festivalgoers and countless more. They took around 150 people hostage, including mothers and children and a Holocaust survivor.

Israel has ordered the evacuation of northern Gaza, a region that is home to 1.1 million people, within 24 hours. The order, which was sent to the United Nations, has sparked fears Israel is planning a ground offensive to attack Hamas they say are living in tunnels under the city. A ground offensive in Gaza would likely bring even higher casualties on both sides in brutal house-to-house fighting.
