				Friedrich Majer (1772 -1818)
Friedrich Majer (also Maier) (* 28 April 1772 in Koskau near Schleiz , 15 May 1818 in Gera ) was a German historian and ethnographer .
Majer was born as the son of a preacher, later a pastor in Tanna . From 1781 he studied in Jena and afterwards lived in Weimar. He became a princely prince of the later Prince of Reuss-Schleiz Heinrich LXII, 1804-1805. And led him to the universities of Würzburg and Bamberg. Because of the events of the war , the Grand Tour of the Prince, in which Majer was intended as companion, could not take place. Therefore, he lived in Jena and taught as a lecturer in Weimar. Starting from 1804 he was princely Reussisch-Schleizischer Rat, last legation council .

Majer's research focus was on folklore, especially on religion. He was a pupil of Johann Gottfried Herder and introduced Arthur Schopenhauer 1813 into the ancient Hindu thinking.
