TalkTV’s Kevin O’Sullivan and Alex Phillips are joined by political commentator Charlotte Littlewood and The Henry Jackson Society’s Alan Mendoza, to discuss the groups listed to be ‘assessed’ for extremism.
It comes as the Government unveiled its new definition of extremism amid rising concern over threats to British democracy.
Groups covered by the definition, which is designed to include conduct that falls short of criminality but is still deemed “unacceptable”, will be denied access to government funding and prevented from gaining a platform that could “legitimise” them through association with the Government.
The definition describes extremism as “the promotion or advancement of an ideology based on violence, hatred or intolerance” that aims to “negate or destroy the fundamental rights and freedoms of others” or “undermine, overturn or replace the UK’s system of liberal parliamentary democracy and democratic rights”.
Charlotte Littlewood says: “Charities are dressed up in sheep’s clothing, but they’re actually extremist organisations.”
